Art After Dark is a Gillman Barracks late night open house event where exhibitions will be extended beyond opening hours. Pop-up Marketplace and F&B are also specially brought in for the event.
I particularly enjoyed the outdoor screening of the documentary on types. The documentary brought us to Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum and illustrated the evolution of types from wood to metal to digital. Living in the 21st century, we took the power of technology as it is but have neglected the truest and the humblest forms of things. The professor hence brought his students to the museum for them to witness and feel for themselves the pioneer inventions of types.
The documentary also dawned on me on how living in the well-developed and fast paced environment had got us forgetting our roots. The pioneers in the documentary struggled to keep wooden types alive and it is sad to know that only a handful appreciates it.
Time spent appreciating art had always expanded my horizon. I find it beautiful and powerful for artists to transform their thoughts, their beliefs into expressions (be it art pieces, poems or even collection) that could be related by many.
It was a simple yet beautiful night, and I would love to spend it like this again.
